The Cast
The Pajama Game - Synopsis

cover of programme

The show opens with Hines the efficiency expert urging the girls to work harder, and is supported in this by the Manager Mr. Hasler in the cost cutting exercise. Sid, the new superintendant causes a great deal of excitement amongst the girls who find him attractive. The workers feel they are underpaid and are looking for a seven and a half cent rise. Of course Mr. Hasler is against this but there is something suspect about what is hidden in his file which requires his secretary Gladys, to keep it locked and the key hidden. Hines who is in love with Gladys is consumed by his jealousy.

Sid " manhandles" one of the male workers and the case is taken up by Babe, the leader of the grievance committee. Babe and Sid become romantically involved, but after the works picnic things go awry for Babe and Sid who now are on opposite sides regarding the wage rise. Babe supports a go-slow and of course Sid demands an "honest day's work ..." and threatens to fire the slackers.

Babe causes a general breakdown at the factory and is fired by Sid. Hines supports Babe. Sid, in a fit of pique feigns an interest in Gladys and takes her out for the evening to the nightclub "Hernando's Hideaway". During the evening he finds out that Mr. Hasler has been fiddling the books, and manages to persuade him to consent to the pay rise, which brings peace to the factory and rekindles his relationship with Babe.
