The Cast of Calamity Jane 1983
Calamity Jane - Synopsis

cover of programme Henry Miller, the proprietor of the "Golden Garter" in Deadwood City, is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Stage Coach which is bringing a star attraction for the Saloon - the lovely Frances Fryer. When the stage finally arrives it brings not Frances but Francis Fryer, a song and dance man! The townsfolk are, to say the least, disappointed.

To prevent serious damage to Miller's person, Calamity Jane, our hard-bitten, gun- totin' heroine, promises to go to Chicago and bring back Adelaide Adams, a glamorous Vaudeville star, much to Miller's horror and Wild Bill Hickock's amusement.

Unfortunately Calamity mistakes Adelaide's stage-struck dresser, Katie Brown, for the star and in all good faith takes her back to the Saloon. Faced with an audience Katie's nerve goes and she causes as big a riot as Fryer. When she confesses her deception Calamity again saves the day and encourages Katie to "do it her own way". She does and is a sensation. All the men fall for her, including Danny Gilmartin, a Lieutenant at the Fort. Calamity is secretly in love with Danny, although she won't admit it to anyone.

Bill and Danny both arrive at Calamity's cabin with the intention of asking Katie to go to a Ball at Fort Scully. They draw straws and Danny wins. The four go to the Ball, where Calamity in a beautiful hall-gown is the sensation of the evening. She returns from the first waltz to find Katie and Danny in an embrace. She flies into a rage and orders Katie out of town at gunpoint. Breaking down into tears she pulls off her borrowed finery. Bill hurriedly fetches her coat and escorts her home. On the way they console each other, and without knowing how or why find themselves in a passionate embrace. Danny arrives with a letter from Katie, saying she has gone to Valley Falls. Calamity immediately rides off to bring Katie hack for a triple wedding, Francis Fryer having plucked up enough courage to ask Miller if he can marry his niece Susan.
