September Song

cover of programme In 1957, EKLOC arrived on the cultural landscape of East Kilbride. Here are some details from the programme available at the club's first revue.

WE INTRODUCE OURSELVES
We are the East Kilbride Light Opera Club, founded in 1957 with the object of producing Musical Comedies and Light Operas to entertain, the people of East Kilbride and to fill one of the empty facets of entertainment available.

This Revue is a forerunner of things to come. The first of our main productions will be staged in Duncanrig School in March, 1958. This will be the "Desert Song" for which rehearsals will begin immediately the Revue is off the stage. This Revue, to which we thank you for coming, is to introduce ourselves, to let you judge how we can sing in harmony and most important to raise the funds necessary for a bigger production. Scenery has to be hired as well as costumes. Royalties have to he paid and the services of professional producer and muscial director rewarded.

A Revue is A "hotch-potch" of bits and pieces designed to amuse and entertain all comers. In our centre pages you will find the programme which includes comedy (no tragedy), song, magic (no rabbits from hats), and tuneful music and choruses as well as a spot of dancing. Who could wish for more?

As a result of buying this programme, you may not go home empty-handed. 0n the front cover- of the programme there is a number, and during the evening a draw will be made for the lucky number. So keep it in mind.

Finally, before the curtain rises a word of thanks to all our patrons who have helped to let us put this show on for you. To you for coming to support us, to the various shopkeepers who have kindly displayed posters for us, and to the press who have so willingly given us editorial space to spread the news.

September began in a wet and dismal way but now Good cheer! - ring up the curtain on "September Song".
